A Note from Seth

My dear friends,

“Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you.” These beautiful words from St. Mark’s Gospel are the words of the angel sitting in the empty tomb spoken to the women who have come to anoint Jesus’ body. The words proclaim the gospel news, “He has been raised.” But the gospel message does not stop with simply the news of Christ’s resurrection. Rather, the gospel news points forward. The risen Christ is going to Galilee to proclaim his resurrection- and he wants the disciples to join him there. And so it is with us. The risen Christ beckons to us to join him in the work of sharing his love to the world.

The women who came to the tomb that first Easter morning came to do the very necessary work of death. The crucified body of Jesus needed to be anointed in the Jewish custom. But their mission was changed when they encountered news of Christ’s resurrection. I think the same applies to us. For more than a year, we have had to do the necessary work placed upon us by the COVID-19 pandemic. And while a lot of that important work continues, we are also beginning to turn our eyes to the future and what the future holds for us. For Christ Church, our future includes the completion of our new education building, increasing our Sunday worship numbers as vaccination rates continue to rise, and finding ways to bring the wider community back onto our campus. And the risen Christ goes before us in all these things, blazing the trail of our faith. What resurrection work is Christ calling you to in our Easter world?

The peace of Christ be always with you,
Seth+
